1 Month
Wow, its hard to believe that I have been gone for 1 whole month, only eight more to go! So far I have been having the time of my life with the new people I have met. It is still weird to go for a drive around the outside of the city and see nothing but fields and very tiny buildings, but I am getting use to it. We are living in a very nice house on a street that is close to downtown and other cool streets.
I'm working at the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre, and today is my first day at the learning centre so that's why I am able to write in the blog. I am enjoying the Food Bank, not so much the work part, but the people part. There are so many different cultures working here it seems like I'm learning something new about each one everyday.
There is way too much stuff that has gone on since I've left to even put into the blog, but I have had tonnes of fun, and even had a few interesting walks home at night. All 11 participants are still here, we are all very close and there have been no major fights yet. I have had y turn at being House Manager and made some pretty good bread all by hand. My French has greatly improved just by living with Quebecois, talking to them, and listening to their music.
This weekend there is a huge Pow Wow at the Credit Union Centre, the Premier of Saskatchewan (NDP!!) and some of his ministers will be in attendance. The Katimavik group is volunteering on Saturday for 8 to 11 hours, it should be a whole lot of fun. Then on Sunday, the group is going to Beaver Creek for a hike.
Next Friday Billeting will start, I don't know who I'll be staying with but we will find out on Monday night when we have our open house for the billeting families. It will be different not having to live with 11 other people, and there will be TV!! That means Hockey Night in Canada for the first time this season for me!! I doubt that I'll watch a heap of TV, I really don't miss it, my plans so far are to spend some of the nights with some of my closer Katima-Friends an see a movie, go shopping, and see a Saskatoon Blades game ($14 for anywhere!!).
Another cool thing was a Benefit Concert for the Food Bank, the country singer Brad Johner played at it. So he was here a few times doing press things and I was able to meet him!
That's all for now, but since I'm trained in the learning centre expect some more blogs!
