The Wedding Crashers
On Saturday Zach and I played our first big gig together at a wedding on Stoney Lake. It was a pretty fancy affair, guests took pontoon boats from a marina to the church on an island on Stoney called Church on the Rock for the service, then got back onto the boats and headed to a cottage where the reception was held. Zach and I played during the socializing period at the reception while boats were ferrying people over to enjoy the bar, and the wedding party got their pictures done. We played for around and hour and a half with around 15 songs in our repertoire. We sounded pretty good for the amount of practice we put in, and the guests said they really enjoyed our music. One of the guests was an actor in Spring Tonic at Showplace, which Fyd-L-Styx played at, and he spread the word to the guests about Fyd-L-Styx Band, which gave the band even more publicity. It won’t be too long before Fyd-L-Styx is huge, and hopefully it doesn’t happen before I go.
Today was Anniversary Sunday at church, the church is now 173 years old, and we had a special service. The “3 C’s” and a Zach played twice during the service, which gave Zach and I the honour of not only being wedding crashers for the weekend, but anniversary spoilers as well. It was the Stark’s year to tell the congregation a bit about the Stark history in the church, where a few great Stark stories were told, but not the best ones, I guess Mum and Grandma omitted them.
This coming Saturday is Canada Day and the Fyd-L-Styx band is putting a float in the Peterborough parade. We also get 10 minutes of fame on the stage at Del Crary, where the music world’s washed up musicians play (like that Davy Jones dude from the Monkees that was there on Saturday night), I hope its not a sign. The weather seems like it might be sketchy with a 70% of rain and maybe even a thunderstorm, but there is still time for it to improve. However it still better not rain the parade, especially Canada’s parade.
